in 2008

Matthew Reid,
Winner of the East of Scotland Schools Championship 2009
2008 finished not unlike 2007 with Downfield Juniors picking up most Angus County honours. In addition to the wonderful season our teams have had, the achievements this year of Ross Storrier have been nothing short of sensational. He has played consistently well all year and has got his handicap down to +1 as well as gaining another two caps (winning all his matches) for the national under-16 team. Reece Mitchell is another one to watch for 2009, as he has made great steps forward in lowering his handicap, down from 5 at the beginning of the season to 1.8 at the end of September, which is no mean feat. Our Junior Captain Matthew Reid was unfortunatley defeated in both the Gents and the Junior Carnoustie Club Championship finals, and he was recently picked to play for the Scottish Schools team at Royal Lytham.
Downfield Golf Club is
extremely proud of the golfing ability and the conduct of all our Junior ambassadors.

2008 summer was anything but good weather wise, but was great for Downfield Juniors. We did extremely well in all competitions and our Juniors handicaps are tumbling by the day. All the hard work is paying off. The 2008 Downfield Junior Open was won by Downfeld member, Steve Sidowra, with a great score of 69 (-1) playing off a three handicap, and the runner up was Reece Mitchell, only two shots adrift. The handicap section was won by another Downfield junior and future Open champion, Andrew Gibson playing off a 23 handicap at only 10 years old. The girls section was won by Jemma Chalmers from Monifieth. Jemma is another great local golfer with tremendous talent and a bright future. Well done to all who competed in the open on a sunny day for once.

Our Junior Coaching Programme for
Spring2009 went extremely well under the watchful eye of our Professional staff and will continue thanks to the enthusiasm from Alex Reid (Junior Convenor).
A big thank you to Paul Murphy and his staff for the improvements to the PeeWee course for the younger Juniors to play and practice on.
We all appreciate the effort and commitment the Juniors themselves have put in so far.
